A Guide for Your Sweet Vidalia Area

One of the things I really enjoy is sharing my hometown with buyers who are relocating to the Vidalia Georgia Area. The Vidalia Area consists of Vidalia, Georgia and spans two counties, Toombs and Montgomery.

Origin

Toombs carved out of the once larger Montgomery County. In The Hawkinsville Dispatch 20 March 1873 it was said, “Stranger what part of the State are you from?” Says I, well, sir, I am from the Great State of Montgomery, nearly equal in extent with the State of Rhode Island…” (History of Montgomery County Georgia to 1918)

What we’re Known for…

If you’ve ever tasted a Vidalia Sweet Onion you’ve already experiences a little bit of the Vidalia area. While not all Vidalia Onions are grown in Vidalia, they are grown in the area. But, Our onions aren’t the only things we are known for. Our area is known for our hospitality, sweet tea, and artistic residents. Home to sports lovers and hunters and fishermen plenty. We’re outdoors men, women and art appreciators.

Shopping & Dining…

Our Historic Downtown in both Vidalia and Lyons is filled with a cornucopia of business variety from services to antiques. When it comes to dining the area boasts an impressive selection of restaurants from chain favorites featuring cuisine from around the world to down home southern cooking that will make your mouth water. If you love to shop vintage malls and antique shops, you will love the various shops each with their own special look and feel. While we have a lot to offer if you hanker for something we don’t our area’s proximity to Macon, Dublin, Statesboro and Savannah make for fun-filled day trips of shopping and entertainment.

Health & Wellness…

Meadows Regional Medical Center is a state of the art hospital that serves the surrounding area. Not only does Meadows Regional attend to your medical needs, but also your wellness needs through the Meadows Wellness Center. They aren’t the only ones available to help you stay fit you can choose from several gym-type options based on your needs and preferences. If you prefer to walk there are also a few walking trails to choose from.

Entertainment…

There are plenty of things to do in the area including:

Concerts, Plays and other Entertainment at Vidalia’s new Amphitheatre or The Newly Renovated Pal Theatre both located in Downtown Vidalia or “Tales from the Altamaha – A Folk Life Play presented each year at The Blue Marquee Theatre in Downtown Lyons.

Boating/ Fishing : Whether you enjoy fishing in ponds or rivers fishing is certainly a pastime you can enjoy in our area.
Arts, Crafts Activities’ are also showcased via the Altama Gallery, the Annual Vidalia Onion Festival and other street exhibitions will certainly help you get your art on.
If Sports is your thing the various recreation departments will keep you busy young or old and there are always high school games if you love these spectator sports.
